Photography

In response to a few requests, here is another installment of some of my photography.

The following are scans based off of a contact sheet. I grew fond of the rather dusty / scratchy look obtained in the photos, so no correcting has been applied.

Yet Another Hack...

I have received a few requests to post some of my photography work, so over the next couple of blog entries I'll try to get some out there.

The first installment in this mess is a selection of stills from the music videos I photographed. The director of photography on these pieces was none other than my good friend Erik Nordby, who, despite outclassing his peers by an order of a magnitude, remains doing behind-the-scenes visual effects work. The director of all of these is a fellow by the name of Kyle Davison. He is an amazing go getter with more grit than a sheet of sandpaper.

So, without further ado, here are some snips with relevant YouTube links where applicable. If you have a 32 bit browser with Flash installed, you can click on one of the stills and get taken to YouTube.

Sam Roberts: Hard Road
Matthew Good: In A World Called Catastrophe
Matthew Good: Alert Status Red
Thornley: Come Again
David Usher: Time of Our Lives
Hot Hot Heat: Talk to Me, Dance With Me
Sonic Bloom: Neopolitan [sic]

Long Time Between Posts

Inkscape is a pretty amazing tool. I have been using it almost exclusively over the past while, and I strongly encourage all folks to give it a try - http://www.inkscape.org.

I have included a small offering of some of my vectorized work, although there are many pieces out there that eclipse my rather crude abilities.

And an unfinished portrait of my daughter. I hope you can find something in these samples to compel you to start using Inkscape.

Now, onto other related news...

Despite the griping about Ubuntu, my interaction on Fluxbuntu has been nothing short of refreshing. When the fellow who issues the ultimate decisions on art and design is a forward thinker, it makes life quite a dream. Kudos to joejaxx on freenode for being a diligent and bright mind. He is also one helluva workhorse when it comes to Free Software, as is evident through his tireless commitment to UbuntuStudio, Fluxbuntu, and several other things that he invests 110% effort into.

It never ceases to amaze me the talent, introspection, and ability of some of the people I meet in the community.

On a relative side note, if you have any interest in contributing to one of my side projects, please feel free to join the team - http://www.launchpad.net/~ubun2design

*** UPDATE April 9th, 2008 ***
The Ubun2 project was discontinued. I simply had too many other things to commit my limited time to. Also, its time has now passed. Heck, we are still struggling to get basic colour and composition into Ubuntu's main design structure. Forging ahead...
